Triora is towards the end of the Valle Argentina (Silvery Valley), at an altitude of 620 Mts., and appr. 50 Km. (app. 31 miles) from the seaside. It is part of the Mountain Community of the Valley, of which you see some photos also in the page dedicated to the other villages. Considered by tourist experts in Germany one of the most beautiful places in Italy, it is perched on the mountains, overlooking green valleys.

The joyful and serene atmosphere of the mountain village can still be found. The museum is dedicated to the traditional crafts (with many ancient tools for agriculture, to get milk, to spin the wool etc.) and - in a most peculiar way- also to the local history of witchcraft. In fact, in the past in Triora some women were accused of being witches, and after being tortured, they where sentenced to death. A modern view of withcraft is to consider it an infamous accusation against women not following the cultural patterns and views of the establishment.

The little winding streets are very characteristic, and are still paved to let carriages pass, hence the name "carrugi".  The bread of Triora is famous for its genuine ingredients, in particular the clean water, and for the very natural way it is prepared. It is sold along the entire Ponente Riviera, yet when it comes out hot from the baker in Triora it has a superior genuine taste.

The village includes a sanctuary hosted in a natural cave (left photo), a library and a master church (not shown in the photos). The typical houses are made of bricks and wood.
